Gosaikunda Holy Lake Trekking
Gosaikunda Lake Trek is one of the naturally and culturally best destinations for adventure travelers in Nepal. Gosaikunda Lake lies in Langtang region. This region is one of the nearest and best trekking destinations from Kathmandu valley (capital city of Nepal). It lies about 130 km north of the Kathmandu Valley close to the border with Tibet; China.This Lake has gained its reputation among the tourist. Gosainkunda the sacred lake is regarded as a major pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists .Gosainkunad trek considered as a holy and a pilgrimage lake trek which combines the remote and spectacular hidden valleys of Langtang with the holy lake of Gosainkunda which is unique and one of the holiest Lake.
Gosaikunda Lake Trek is adventure trekking of Langtang trekking Region. This trek offers an opportunity to discover Tibetan villages, Tamang Villages, panoramic Himalayan views of the Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, Yala peak, Naya kanga, Gaurishankar including the Annapurna Himalayan range.It is surrounded by mountains on almost all sides and a great ensemble of nine other lakes accompany the Goisaikunda. Every year during Janai Purnima in August, hundreds of Hindu pilgrims visit for a holy bath in the lake. The large rock at the center of the lake is said to be the remains of a Shiva shrine and it is also claimed that channel carries water from the lake directly to the tank at the Kumbheshwar Temple in Patan in the Kathmandu valley. The trek passes through varied landscapes ranging from evergreen forest, cascading waterfalls and turbulent streams to alpine grass and barren mountainsides. Besides the famous Gosainkunda Lake, the other lakes in the neighborhood are Nagkunda, Bhairabkunda, Saraswatikunda and Surajkunda.
Ganja La trek starts from Sybru Bensi and ends at Chisapani. The trek begins by hiking up river through lush rhododendron and bamboo forests to Kyangin Gompa. Kyangin Gompa is surrounded by towering snow capped peaks and is home to a Buddhist monastery.Here in Langtang region green and pleasant land of quiet villages, terraced slopes and pine forests leading up to Langtang National Park a perfect place for relaxed, culturally oriented trekking and get entertain to see the Wildlife includes migratory birds, deer, monkeys, tahr and pika. Langtang is also known for its many glaciers where, there are more than 70 of varying sizes high altitude lakes that include Holy Gosainkunda, Parvatikunda, Bhairavkunda and Dudhkunda are the another attraction of Gosaikunda Lake trekking.
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
Altitude: 1,300 m/ 4,264 ft
We will pick you up from the Tribhuvan International airport. Our representatives will transfer you to your hotel. After you freshen up, we will take you for a short walk around Thamel and Basantapur. You will be provided a complimentary traditional Nepali dinner in the evening. You can enjoy Nepali folk music or head back to your hotel for rest after dinner.
Day 02: Sightseeing and trek preparation
There are many cultural and religious sites in Kathmandu. Many of these sites are among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These sites attract thousands of tourists each year. The ancient Swayambhunath and Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, Chovar Gorge, Durbar Squares of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur, Changunarayan Temple, Budhanilkantha are some of the major sightseeing destinations in the valley. We will shop for trek gears and supplies in the evening.
Day 03: Drive to Dhunche
Altitude: 1,950 m/6,435 ft
Time: 7-8 hours
Dhunche is the headquarter of Rasuwa district and the starting point of our trek. We will drive to Dhunche, which normally takes around 8 hours. There are two alternative routes for Dhunche. One is to travel southwest from Kathmandu to Galchhi in Dhading district and then travel straight north to Dhunche via Trishuli Bazaar. Another option is to travel directly north from Kathmandu to Dhunche via Kakani-Trisuli Bazaar route. We will have dinner and rest in Dhunche overnight.
Day 04: Trek to Thulo Syabru
Altitude: 2,230 m/7,350 ft
Time: 5-6 hours
Thulo Syabru is a beautiful Tamang village. The trek to Thulo Syabru takes 5-6 hours on average. The road to Thulo syabru is dominated by dense bamboo, rhododendron, oak and hemlock forests. We get a beautiful view of the Langtang, Ganesh Himal and Tibetan peaks during our trek. The section between Dhunche and Thulo Syabru is also a famous apple growing destination. There are many apple orchards in the region. We will enjoy the hospitality of the Thulo Syabru villagers tonight.
Day 05: Trek to Shin Gompa
Altitude: 3,330 m/10,925 ft
Time: 4-5 hours
The bamboo forest slowly changes to a mix of rhododendron and pine trees as we move upwards from Thulo Syabru. Our destination for the day is Shin Gompa, a Buddhist Monastery. The trek normally takes 5 hours on average. We will travel by Garda Gaon, Phulung Ghyang and Chandanbari before reaching Shin Gompa. Chandanbari has a cheese factory where we will enjoy fresh mountain cheese.
Day 06: Trek to Lauribinayak
Altitude: 3,950 m/13,035 ft
Time: 3-4 hours
We will wake up in Shin Gompa, enjoy the beautiful sunrise and head for Lauribinayak. The trek takes upto 4 hours. The hilltop at Lauribinayak provides a wonderful view of the mountains. The climb today will be steeper than other days. We will take a break in between, preferably at Cholangpati. We will enjoy the sunset at Lauribinayak and rest at a guesthouse there.
Day 07: Visit to Gosaikunda Lake
Altitude: 4,380 m/14,454 ft
Time: 3-4 hours of walk
We will wake up at Laurabinayak and head for the holy lake of Gosaikunda today. The trek normally takes about 3-4 hours. We will enjoy the beautiful view of mountains in the Manaslu, Ganesh and Langtang himal range on our way. You can enjoy holy dip at the lake. The dip at the lake is believed to wash away all sins. If you are willing, you can enjoy trek to other lakes in the vicinity of Gosaikunda. We will rest at the lakeside tonight.
Day 08: Trek back to Shin Gompa
Altitude: 3,330 m/10,925 ft
Time: 5-6 hours
We will head back to Shin Gompa. We will be going downhill. Today we will cover two days of uphill journey that we took earlier. The trek will take up to 6 hours. We will rest in Shin Gompa after a long walk. If you had not had the opportunity on the way to Gosaikunda then you can enjoy fresh cheese produced at the local cheese factory in Chandanbari. The factory was opened with help from the Swiss government and is one of the oldest cheese factory in the region.
Day 09: Trek to Dhunche
Altitude: 1,950 m/6,435 ft
Time: 5-6 hours
We will trek back to Dhunche, the place we started our Gosaikunda trek. This will end our trek as we will drive back to Kathmandu on the next day. We will be going continuously downhill and we will only stop for a short tea break at Thulo Syabru, where we had stayed overnight on our way up. We will freshen up at Dhunche and take a stroll around the town. We will enjoy wonderful local food in the evening and take an early sleep today.
Day 10: Drive to Kathmandu
Time: 6-7 hours
We will drive back to Kathmandu today. There are two alternative routes - one via Kakani and another via Galchhi. Once we reach Kathmandu, we freshen up and enjoy a mesmerizing musical night in Thamel. This will be followed by traditional Nepali dinner in a typical Nepali restaurant. You can also opt for traditional Nepali folk dance and cultural show in place of music. If we happen to arrive to Kathmandu early then you can go for a short walk around the streets of Thamel.
Day 11: Departure
You will head back to your destination today. We will pick you up from your hotel, bid you farewell with a small traditional Nepali ceremony and drop you off at the airport. You will pick a flight back to your destination from the airport. You also have the option of extending your trip by taking part in other treks.
